Very cold Saturday with gradual sunshine

DETORITE – Welcome to Saturday, Motown.

We miss big snow but experience today and the first half of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. still “great cold”. We will experience the holidays with a mix of sun and clouds. A short snowfall is possible shortly before Monday.

Saturday morning is icy with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures start in the single digits and low teens. Even the lightest breeze from the northeast will feel harsh with chills near or just below zero.

Sunrise is at 7:59 am

On Saturday afternoon we are still in the ice box despite the sunnier sky. Highs will be in the mid to high teens with wind chills still hovering around zero degrees. Dress in layers before going to memorial services or activities.

Sunset is at 5:26 p.m

With clear skies on Saturday night, heat will be able to escape into space and temperatures will drop into the low teens. Remember to put pets back in the doors and make sure everyone has enough blankets to sleep on before checking in.

Saturday night will be clear and icy. Overnight lows are in the high single digits across the city and in the low single digits or just below zero in surrounding boroughs.

Sunday will be sunny and cold. The maximum temperatures are almost 30 degrees, which is at least ten degrees higher than on Saturday. Coats, hats, scarves and gloves are still needed to stay warm.

Isolated snow showers will sweep through Detroit and southeastern Michigan after midnight Sunday night. A cloudy sky follows.

Welcome to MLK Day, Monday. It will be mostly cloudy and cool. The highs are just over 30 degrees, close to the freezing mark. Most roads will dry out to allow people to travel to and from ceremonies in the area.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be mostly cloudy and cool. Every afternoon temperatures will be close to 35 degrees.

After a weak cold front with a few thunderstorms on Wednesday evening, it will be colder again on Thursday and Friday. It will be partly sunny with daytime temperatures in the mid 20’s and night/early morning temperatures in the single digits and low teens.
