Detroit Pistons add Kelly Olynyk on 3-year, $37 million deal

After the free agency began Monday night, the Detroit Pistons began by agreeing to sign Center Kelly Olynyk on a three-year deal worth $ 37 million, the Free Press has confirmed.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report on the deal just minutes after the moratorium at 6 p.m.

The move fulfills a need for the Pistons, who used a number of moves over the past weekend to make room for the ceiling, including the Mason Plumlee commercial center they signed last weekend.

Olynyk is also a career 36.7% 3 point shooter which should help a Pistons squad that underperformed last season in terms of 3 point volume and accuracy. The eight-year-old vet spent time with both the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets last season following a March 25 trade involving Avery Bradley and Victor Oladipo. Previously, he was honored as an all-rookie at the Boston Celtics in 2013/14.

Olynyk joins a core that includes first overall selections Cade Cunningham, Jerami Grant, and last year’s draft picks – Killian Hayes, Isaiah Stewart, Saddiq Bey, and Saben Lee.

The Pistons still have their space exemption ($ 4.9 million) and a semi-annual exception ($ 3.7 million).
