These downtown Ann Arbor businesses are running graduation weekend deals

ANN ARBOR – Prior to the pandemic, the University of Michigan Spring’s early spring was one of the most profitable events of the year for restaurants, hotels, and retail stores as the big day went down by the thousands on Ann Arbor.

With yet another potentially slow closing weekend, local businesses are hoping to increase sales by running promotions.

“We’re a college town, and much of our economy comes from the University of Michigan and the students, family members and friends it attracts,” said Sandra Andrade, executive director of the Main Street Area Association.

Many downtown businesses rely on major events such as graduation ceremonies, art fairs, and home soccer games for a significant portion of their sales. To stay afloat, most businesses turned to online shopping and roadside pickup to offset the decline in foot traffic.

Several companies offer discounts and specials, including:

  • Shinola: Free engraving on Shinola watches and jewelry throughout the closing weekend from April 30th to May 2nd, 2021.
  • Distant Boutique: 10% off Ann Arbor Custom Crewneck Sweatshirts, April 27th – May 2nd.
  • Cherry Republic: Flat-rate retail and shipping of $ 5.00 from April 30th through May 2nd.
  • Mission Donors: Use coupon code GRADUATE when placing an online order for pickup or delivery and receive a 21% discount on the order.

“Even if you don’t have a graduate student, let’s all celebrate graduates,” said Andrade. “Order dinner at a local restaurant and eat it in your garden or on your terrace. Let’s keep that support. “
