The bars in the Lansing area are empty as families prepare for Thanksgiving

EAST LANSING, Michigan (WLNS) – The night before Thanksgiving is usually a busy night for bars, but today it wasn’t.

“We always try to provide adequate staff for the big days home games, the night before Thanksgiving, all those big days, but unfortunately the flow of business has only calmed down a lot over the past weekend, even over the past few days. I think a lot of people are already on their way home, “said Deanna Kascsak, Barrio’s general manager.

Kascsak says she expected more people to be out tonight.

“Of course we were hoping for a different result, we want to be busy, but we weren’t sure what to expect. We’re also not sure what to expect in the next few months, ”said Kascsak.

With COVID cases rising across the state, some say this is a sign that people are taking precautions before going home on vacation.

“A lot of my friends who were going to visit some older relatives definitely didn’t go out tonight. Even those who received the booster vaccination took every precaution to protect their families at home, “said MSU student Maddie Hopek.

It was a similar picture in most of the bars in the area.

Those familiar with the city’s nightlife say they did not expect to see empty streets on a night like today.
