Suspect identified in social media threat involving Lansing school
DeWITT TWP. − Police indicated they’ve arrested someone in connection with a social media threat at Sheridan Road STEM Magnet School.
DeWitt Township police said they learned of a “possible social media threat” at the school shortly before 6 am Friday and identified a suspect with help from Lansing police and Lansing school officials.
Officers from the two police departments contacted a suspect at his home in Lansing and recovered “a weapon,” township officials said a news release.
“To reassure students and staff of a safe environment, DeWitt Township officers were present at the start of the school day,” the release said.
Officials did not disclose the nature of the threat or give any information about the person who was arrested, other than to say the person “is being charged with a 10-year felony.”
They also did not say what type of weapon was recovered.
The school is located in DeWitt Township in the 16000 block of N. Cedar St.
