Traverse City and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer will begin building new sidewalks on three streets on Monday April 19. The project is part of Safe Routes to School – a program that sees the city creating 3.5 miles of new sidewalks and paths through a $ 2.4 million grant to around 10 local K-8 schools – and is intended to do so Provide students with safer access to Eastern Elementary School.

The work takes place in the following areas:

> The north side of Eastern Avenue between Milliken Drive and Eastwood Avenue
> The north side of College Drive (NMC campus) between East Front Street and the west side of NMC’s Cherry parking lot
> The east side of Fair Street between East Eighth Street and East Front Street, including construction / replacement of the sidewalk ramp at the intersection of Fair Street and Titus Avenue

The work is expected to be completed by June 4th. Road segments remain open to traffic with shoulder locks and / or traffic regulators. Delays are to be expected in the work areas.
