September has been the rainiest month of the year in metro Detroit; last 4 months above average

(WXYZ) – The rain on Metro Detroit has been above average all summer.

The past few days in the area have seen the latest long rainy weather pattern bringing in more than six inches of rain in places like Farmington Hills and Westland. 5.5 inches of rain was reported in Bloomfield Hills and 5.32 inches of rain in Detroit.

Back at the beginning of the year we were below average with rain from January to May. That changed in June.

From June to September we were well above average.

In the past four months, Detroit Metro Airport has seen 20.52 inches of rain, which is 7.27 inches above average.

September brought 5.25 inches of rain at DTW, most of the rain we had in a month this year.

There was 29.18 inches of rain for the year, which is 2.86 inches above average, due to below average rainfall at the beginning of the year.
