Second family seeks answers on remains of loved one at Detroit cemetery

DETROIT – A man claimed his mother was buried here in Gethsemane Cemetery on the east side of Detroit a few years ago, but he doesn’t know exactly where her body is.

He said he had gotten the mess from the former company for years.

“We supposedly bought a piece of land here and my mother is believed to have been buried here in 2018,” said Michael Wilson.

Wilson said he was still not sure if that was the case. His 50-year-old mother, Lori Wilson, died in 2018 as a result of an operation. He said he paid to have his mother buried in Gethsemane Cemetery on Gratiot Avenue and he believes she is there, but he doesn’t know exactly where because he never saw her body in the ground was laid.

“We asked them to see pictures of it or pictures of their coffin and we got no answers or anything,” said Wilson.

Wilson said in 2018 the former company that operated the cemetery had notified his family that they had been assisted with funerals and suggested a different date for the ceremony. When they returned the company claimed they had already buried them and had been running around since then. Now he’s not sure what the truth is.

“When we got out of here, they directed us to another place and it was like right before and before that,” said Wilson. “Then suddenly they pushed it back completely. I honestly don’t think it’s right there. “

He has more questions after seeing our original report on Local 4 on Friday, which involved another family and their loved ones in the same cemetery.
