DNR Lease for Kelley Park – Public Hearing
A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13th at 7 p.m. during the township board meeting at Peninsula Township Hall. This project has been going on for some time, including a community meeting with DNR in 2017, the township board’s vote to move the boat launch from Haserot Beach to Kelley Park in 2019, and the DNR nullifying the boat launch idea last year makes.
However, the current draft of the rental agreement provides for a single-lane ramp start with parking for vehicles with trailers and a separate launch boat for kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and smaller ships.
The lease is a 30-year lease that starts on April 1, 2021 and ends on March 31, 2051. The DNR would own the land and lease it to Peninsula Township for $ 0 a year. Instead of paying, the municipality is responsible for the operation, maintenance and improvement of the premises (they generally apply for grants for this type of project).
Click here to read a draft of the lease prior to the public hearing. If you can’t attend the meeting, email comments to community planner Randy Mielnik, [email protected]
