Pit Spitters come back for win over Growlers | Local Sports

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Pit Spitters scored nine unanswered runs to beat the Kalamazoo Growlers 11-7 in their first game after a six game road trip.

Traverse City (7: 3) fell 7: 2 in the middle of the sixth inning. Three straight singles in the lower part of that inning from Chris Monroe, Colin Summerhill and Crews Taylor got the Pit Spitters rolling.

Zeb Roos got hit by a pitch to score, and Jake Arnold had another RBI. With two outs, Trey Truitt III missed a game-defining home run by inches and hit a double of two RBI off the wall. Truitt had three hits that night, raised his average to .412, and got him a team high of 14 hits for the season.

An RBI from Roos, a sophomore Wofford student, equalized the game in seventh with an RBI double with two. Taylor scored the starting shot due to a throwing error.

Wyatt Rush (1-0) made his season debut in a two-inning start. The bullpen withdrew the last 10 Growlers-Batter it faced.

Traverse City continues its series with Kalamazoo (4-6) on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
