Elmo Eugene “Gene” Anderson

October 3, 1927 – April 18, 2021

DYER, IN – Elmo Eugene “Gene” Anderson, 93 years old, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 18, 2021. Gene was born on October 3, 1927 in Preston, MO. He graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, MO. On December 23, 1945, he married his high school girlfriend, Dorothy Jo Malone.

Gene served on the USS Pocono in World War II and on the USS Haven during the Korean Conflict. After returning from Korea, he received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri. He worked for Standard Oil of Indiana-Amoco Oil from 1954 to 1990.

Gene had been based in Dyer since 1956. He was one of the first Dyer City Police Commissioners and was a member of the Dyer Zoning Board. He was the Little League coach and a member of the Dyer Lions for 50 years. He has been a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church since 1954.

He was a great father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by those who have had the pleasure to know him. His family would especially like to thank his loving family of carers at Residence at Deer Creek who have looked after him superbly over the years.

He is survived by two sons: Michael (Linda) Anderson of Lansing, MI and Jerry Anderson of St. Charles, MO; a daughter Kimberly (Larry) Frank of Dyer, IN. Grandsons TJ (Katherine) Weigel, Daniel Weigel, Katie (Brandon) Chynoweth, Sadie Anderson and Macy Anderson; Great-grandchildren: Kayla (Chris), Alexus, Broden, Olivia, Skyler, Teddi, Milly and Russell Eugene; Great-great-grandchildren: Raylie and Waylon; Siblings: Elizabeth Howard, Bob Anderson, and Kaye Thomas; Sister-in-law: Marjorie McClain and Katie Anderson; Family of your choice: Kiki and Wayne Hartman, Sandy Cheek and John Brooks; many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; his parents, Alva Granvel (Jake) and Mary Cela Anderson; and siblings: George Anderson, Betty Ackels, Billy Anderson, and Ronald Anderson.

Private funeral services are held at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Munster, IN. Friends can visit the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd, Lansing, IL with family on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services are held in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
