New waffle, coffee restaurant opening in downtown Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Social Misfits, a new concept for waffles, cocktails and coffee, arrives at the Residence Inn by Marriott Grand Rapids in downtown the city.
The site will be the first for Spencer Raymond’s new concept, according to a press release on Friday.
Raymond came up with the concept of “a haven at all times and a safe space for anyone who has ever felt a little out of balance with the world”.
While the menu is at the heart of the new concept, they will also feature unique merchandise, a full event schedule and rotating menu items to ensure there is always something new to see, try or experience.
“We couldn’t think of a better city or building to be the first social misfits location than the Residence Inn, which is just steps from the best entertainment in town,” said Raymond.
Social Misfits is the second restaurant on the ground floor announced for the building, the first being Wahlburgers.

“We were looking for a unique coffee / cocktail concept that would enable the ground floor area to be activated from morning to night, and Social Misfits does that perfectly,” said Roger Hinman, CEO of The Hinman Company. “Social Misfits’ presence in downtown Grand Rapids will enhance and complement the strong food and craft beverage scene in the city and will be a great foodie destination for all residents and visitors to the area.”
Located at street level, the 2,728-square-foot space has outdoor seating near the intersection of Fulton and Louis Streets.
Customers can choose from savory and sweet waffles, Michigan maple syrups, craft cocktails, and handcrafted coffee from the Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company.
The menu will also be available as room service for Residence Inn by Marriott guests and for catering events.
