Milan teenagers killed in frontal crash near Ann Arbor

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A 17-year-old driver died in an accident in Pittsfield Township early Saturday, police said.

Officials responded to reports of a traffic accident on Michigan Avenue east of Campbell Road in the community south of Ann Arbor at 12:07 p.m. on October 30, the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety said in a press release.

Investigators found that a vehicle traveling fast east on Michigan Avenue was crossing the center line in western lanes, police said. The vehicle hit another head-on, the police said.

The driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was a 17-year-old man from Milan, the police said.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old Saline woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, but severe enough to require transport to a local hospital.

The police are waiting for toxicological results to determine whether alcohol or substances contributed to the accident. The investigation continues.
