Lansing-Mann gets a second chance with a scholarship

LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – A man from Lansing is given another chance to realize his dreams thanks to a local college scholarship. Rolando Linares is the son of immigrants and is now the first generation to study. This opportunity is the result of years of hard work.

Linares receives $ 20,000 from Lansing Community College for a degree in nursing. This is after some study attempts that just didn’t work out for him.

The award was presented to him on Thursday morning at a ceremony in his honor on the LCC campus. The scholarship is designed to honor the compassionate nurses by ensuring that a new nursing candidate has the opportunity to complete their education.

Linares says he witnessed the injustices of the health system first hand as a child of immigrants. Now he is happy to be able to help people in the future to overcome these difficulties.

“Everyone deserves equal treatment. Everyone deserves good health care, ”said Linares. “It shouldn’t matter who you are or what different backgrounds you have. Everyone deserves the same healthcare and I want to be part of it. “

Linares will join the LCC’s nursing program in the coming spring semester.
