Lansing Community College celebrates Cesar Chavez Day through a virtual event
LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – Lansing Community College’s Bureau of Diversity and Inclusion and the Cesar Chavez Learning Center are virtually hosting the 11th annual Cesar Chavez Day celebration.
This event will take place on Wednesday March 31st at 6 p.m. It is also free and open to the public.
The speakers Diana Rivera, Dr. Nino Rodriguez and Elena Herrada took part. There will be a special performance by the Everett High School Dance Team and the Latino Student Organization.
- Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association
- He worked hard to raise farm workers’ wages and to form union organizations
- Chavez launched a strike against California winemakers in 1965 that lasted five years and resulted in a nationwide boycott of California grapes
- His campaign included a 340-mile march and a 25-day hunger strike
