Jamie Christopher Blanke
Beloved father, husband, brother and son, Jamie Christopher Blanke, was unexpectedly called to Heaven on March 18 at the age of 35. Jamie was born in Grand Rapids on August 31, 1985 and spent most of his childhood in Traverse City. He is survived by his high school mistress, Elizabeth Araxi Gentry; They married in Traverse City in 2008 and have lived in Chicago ever since. He was reunited in death with two precious babies lost to miscarriage and will be greatly missed by his three children Anne, 8 years old, Eleanor, 5 years old, and Damien, 1 year old.
Jamie’s life was one of high achievement and excellence in everything he did, but his true passion was his relationships with family and friends. As an Eagle Scout at the age of 13, he particularly enjoyed aid projects and camping with his father, the troop leader. He served in the student government and was a swim captain at Traverse City Central High School.
Jamie’s Catholic faith found fertile ground during his time at Notre Dame University, where he graduated with degrees in finance and theology in 2007. He has repeatedly won awards such as “Nuttiest Fan” at sporting events and valued friendships and haikus within the four walls of Keough Hall.
Upon graduation, Jamie moved to Chicago and began a fun and successful career in finance. He received his Masters of Business Administration from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago in 2015 and was a Chartered Financial Analyst. Most recently, he was Research Director in the Pritzker Group’s asset management team.
Although the global events of the past year were unprecedented and difficult, Jamie’s ability to work from home was a silver lining as he was able to spend more time with his beloved family who were everything to him. He was also able to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a general aviation pilot and has been delighted to have been taking his wife and daughters to “airplane guests” in the region over the past few months. He also loved traveling and had last brought the family to Italy for a two-week visit to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary.
Jamie is also survived by his parents, John and Amy Blanke of Traverse City; Sister Caitlin (Matthew) Hughes of Ann Arbor; Grandparents, John (Cathy) Blanke and Ed (Penny) Carrigan, lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended families and countless friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 25th at 11:00 AM at St. John Cantius in Chicago. The tour starts at 10 a.m. Instead of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ronald McDonald House charities in Chicagoland on Jamie’s behalf. The fair will also be broadcast live on youtu.be/R5Dh1TxbroA.
