How a Metro Detroit business owner is motivating employee vaccination

DETROIT – The pandemic has devastated so many small businesses, but with the vaccines now available, the end of the tunnel is light.

At Canine To Five, every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of employees. Business owner Liz Blondy has an idea for everyone to get back into business.

The dog grooming, day care, and catering business in Detroit has been fortunate enough to stay open during the pandemic.

“We had doctors bringing their pups,” said Blondy.

But things are not going as usual. Blondy believes this will happen when most – if not all – of their employees are vaccinated.

“To give confidence to our employees and customers,” said Blondy. “We’re not going to worry about why a person gets sick and doesn’t come in.”

To motivate her staff to get shots in the arms, she came up with a few ideas: $ 50 for those who received the vaccine, plus a paid day off the day after the second shot in case there were side effects.

After all, each employee will receive $ 100 if all employees at the Detroit and Ferndale sites are vaccinated. Blondy said it was not a mandate, but it is highly recommended.
