Grand Rapids police investigating after downtown assault victim dies in hospital
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Grand Rapids police are investigating a murder earlier this month.
According to a press release on Thursday, officers responded to Monroe Ave at around 1:15 a.m. on September 5th. NW and W. Fulton St ..
They found an unresponsive man who had just been assaulted and who regained consciousness, police said.
He suffered “apparent injuries” as a result of the incident.
The victim, 22-year-old Cody Lee Dahlquist from Coloma, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
He died in hospital on September 22nd.
The crime scene officers conducted a preliminary investigation before the case was turned over to the detectives for follow-up.
The Kent County coroner performed an autopsy and classified the death as a death from traumatic brain injury.
Police believe the attack occurred outside near Monroe Live 20 and the AC Hotel.
