Go-kart drivers of all ages come together for the Cups Kart North America race in East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Michigan – Racers of all ages and their families gather in East Lansing for the Cup Karts North America race. More than 200 drivers take to the track.

“This is the Cup Karts North America that is taking place here in East Lansing. It’s a national five-series race that covers this side of the country, but we have California drivers here, “said Kevin Haun, who owns the East Lansing kart track where the event takes place.

Racers between the ages of five and 65 drive on Saturday and Sunday. Greg Jasperson, who helped organize this event, tells me that the race is both fun and special because it’s age-appropriate.

“I grew up karting many years ago and when my son got into the sport we didn’t see much of an opportunity for him to grow or do any kind of trip with four-wheel racing,” said Jasperson. We decided to do a series ourselves to do it, and a really cool family atmosphere has developed and it is really the families that make us do it. “

The races are divided into age groups and different heats, but there are opportunities for everyone to win prizes, explained Jasperson.

“We only give out trophies for the top three at each race, but we decided to use all of our sponsorship money to buy prizes and give away giveaways that we only do as door prizes,” he said Often in a performance sport like this, you have a few winners who win big, and we didn’t want those people to be the only ones who get. “

The prices, it seems, are not in the foreground for the racing drivers. Instead, they explained, they just love to go fast.

“I can drive fast and get past people,” said Andrew Dean, who will be racing this weekend.

“[I love] just the joy it brings and the challenges, if it were easy everyone would do it. ”
