The pandemic left many restaurants without employees. By the time school finishes, restaurants in East Lansing say they need help.
All over the city there are signs saying “Help wanted”. Fast food restaurants like Taco Bell, McDonalds, Wendy’s, and even restaurants in downtown East Lansing are looking for more staff.
I spoke to staff at Baps Home Style Korean Barbeque. They said they wanted their help at their window since the pandemic started.
The owner said before the pandemic they had 20 employees but now they only have 4. Many of them were afraid to come because of the pandemic.
For almost 11 months, the owner ran his restaurant alone with a strict take-out. It had only been a month since Ryan and friends returned to work knowing the owner was in trouble.
“We are struggling to recruit more people right now as everyone is being vaccinated, especially with MSU, and they are providing vaccines to students. Yes. We hope that more people will work here and that more customers will enjoy the food, ”said Ryan Young, employee at BAPS.
Other restaurants say they only plan to hire a few more people when the summer reopens because they aren’t that busy when school is out.
BAPS Korean Barbeque hopes to have more staff after school.
