East Grand Rapids wins district title in thrilling fashion against East Kentwood

East GR 51, East Kentwood 50

East Grand Rapids scored a thrilling 51:50 win over East Kentwood on Friday and won a Division 1 girls’ basketball district championship.

“It was a hell of a game,” said Troy Hammond, East Grand Rapids head coach. “Just our kids ‘determination to keep fighting, keep playing, stay there and cause trouble both ways. I think this is one of the best rivalries and probably the state on the girls’ basketball side.

AGR senior Jillian Brown led all goal scorers with 28 points.

“I trust my teammates so much,” said Brown. “We just work so well together. I know what they’re going to do, they know what I’m going to do. We’re a very close team and it works to our advantage.”

The Pioneers advance to Division 1 in West Ottawa to play Rockford in the semi-finals on Monday.
