Drive-by shooting leaves 1 useless, 3 others including 6-year-old boy injured on Detroit’s west side

DETROIT – A 51-year-old man was killed and three others, including a 6-year-old boy, injured in a shooting in Detroit on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Calvert Avenue near Woodrow Wilson Street, according to the Detroit Police Department.

Police said the four victims were outside when a black SUV with four people drove by and someone inside fired multiple shots. The child was shot in the foot.

“Several shells from a few different firearms – semi-automatic weapons. I think I counted at least 22 out there, ”said Cmdr. Tiffany Stewart. “They were outside enjoying a beautiful summer day. Here, too, there is unnecessary armed violence in our city. Bullets have no names and today we injured four people, including another child in the city of Detroit. “

The victims were taken to a hospital where the 51-year-old man was pronounced dead.

The 6-year-old and two other people aged 22 and 38 are in stable condition, according to the police.

“You want to work harder to stop these things. Too many innocent people, too many innocent children in the city of Detroit due to unnecessary gun violence. So we have a big push to get as many illegal weapons off the streets as possible, ”said Stewart.
