Cold temperatures before the return of spring

DETROIT – There’s a lot to look forward to when spring comes on Saturday, but our coldest numbers will kick in before this milestone.

Morning lows will be below freezing at most locations by next week. The daily highs will be above normal Wednesday, but will stay close to the seasonal values on Thursday and Friday. The average highs for this last week of winter are in the mid-1940s. Spring starts at 5:37 am on Saturday.

Our next system will be mostly rain. We could see some mix at the beginning of Thursday morning, but that will quickly flow for the rest of the event. We will be on the northern edge of this system. As it stands now, the rain is most likely in our south zone, with less chance if you head north. It won’t take much time to change the track of this system. So be ready for changes in the next 24 hours.

After this rain on Friday, we are at our coldest point in the forecast. Saturday brings us back to 50 and Sunday brings us back to the top 50s. The weekend sky is light and dry. If we split our hair, Saturday will have even fewer clouds than Sunday. Expect windy conditions for our first spring weekend. Next week it promises to be even warmer with 60s for the first half.
