Detroit police seek suspect in west side shooting after kidnapping victim found safe

Police are asking the public for help in finding a 21-year-old Detroit man who was suspected of shooting and kidnapping in the west of the city on Tuesday.

Anyone with information on Marcus Montgomery’s whereabouts should call the Detroit Police Department. Authorities said Montgomery is considered armed and dangerous.

Officials said Wednesday morning that Montgomery’s kidnapping victim, Emoni Smith, 20, was safely found. Smith and Montgomery know each other, they said.

Montgomery was last seen in a silver smaller SUV with an unidentified man and woman.

Police say Marcus Montgomery, a suspect in a shooting and kidnapping, may be in this vehicle.

According to a preliminary investigation, at around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Smith was sitting in a red Ford Explorer with another woman, also 20, in the East Warren Avenue and Penrod area near Southfield Freeway, when a man pulled up in front of them and physically forced Smith in his car and drove away.

Police said the woman who was with Smith followed the man but was shot dead when he shot her vehicle. The man then fled east on West Chicago Road towards Greenfield.

Paramedics took the shooting victim to a hospital where she is in a temporary serious condition, they said.
