Chilly and becoming wetter Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day and welcome to Sunday Motown.

Rain showers are gradually spreading over large parts of the region today. Then it gets drier and colder overnight. Sunshine returns tomorrow and Tuesday with slightly higher temperatures. It will feel more like spring by the end of this week.

Sunday afternoon is cloudy and cool. The clouds lower and thicken as the minutes and hours move forward. The rain is increasing in intensity, but is light compared to the downpours and thunderstorms south of the Michigan border (in Indiana, Ohio, and the Ohio Valley).

Cities and towns in our North Zone (areas north of M-59 / Hall Road) will be drier but cooler. It is cloudy in northern Oakland County, northern Macomb County, and from Flint via Lapeer to Port Huron to the north in The Thumb. Highs will be in the low and mid 40s.

The Tigers will have a hard time playing baseball (if there is a game) in rainy, cool conditions on Sunday afternoons. Sunday evening will be wet and cold as families prepare dinner, but the rain showers are slowly disappearing and weakening once the sun has set. As darkness falls, temperatures drop to the low 40s.
