Check out KLA’s new $ 200 million headquarters in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR – KLA Corporation hosted the grand opening of its newest North American headquarters in northeast Ann Arbor on Friday morning.

After three years of construction, KLA officially broke ground for its new campus at the end of 2019 and plans to welcome employees to the almost completed facility this month.

The state-of-the-art facility, valued at $ 200 million, has a green roof, five-story atrium and will house a fitness center, cafeteria, coffee shop and electric vehicle charging points for employees. Surrounded by forests, there is also a hiking trail available to employees.

The 230,000-square-foot campus will house nearly 1,000 employees as KLA pushes to hire 600 new employees to join its 330-strong team.

The global technology company plays a key role in developing services and equipment for semiconductor chip manufacturers.

“Without KLA technology, practically no laptop, smartphone or smart car could be produced,” says a press release.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer attended the event along with KLA executives from the company’s Milpitas, California headquarters, University of Michigan officials and other local industry leaders.

“We are grateful to KLA,” said Governor Whitmer at the event. “When you started looking for locations to locate and build your R&D center in 2018, you had many options. You could have gone anywhere in the world. Three hundred and fifty North American locations were considered, and you ended up choosing Michigan. And true to our reputation as an innovator, KLA will continue to find a welcoming, supportive, and fertile home here in the state of Michigan. “

Rick Wallace, President and CEO of KLA, is an alumnus of the University of Michigan and said Ann Arbor is the ideal location for the company to open its second US headquarters.

“Not many people know who we are,” said Wallace. “We’re a pretty well kept secret, but I think we’re a great company that has done some incredible things because of our talent. I would say Michigan is a secret in many parts of the country; Ann Arbor is a secret. “

Wallace said the biggest factor in opening a campus in Ann Arbor is talent. With its proximity to the University of Michigan and a growing tech hub in the Midwest, he said Ann Arbor ticks all the boxes.

“We are in a talent war, so we need to create an environment like this that is attractive to people,” said Wallace. “We also have to have a community in which people want to live. Ann Arbor beats way over her weight. A great place to live. It’s a great place to start a family.

“We have people moving from California who can’t afford to expand their families in the Bay Area, and here they are thrilled with the opportunity they saw, let alone the natural beauty that it is here gives.”
