BYOC Co. sustainable business is about to open in downtown Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR – BYOC Co. will soon open its doors in Liberty Square, downtown 255 E. Liberty Street.

BYOC is an brainchild of University of Michigan graduate Emma Hess, who last year successfully ran pop-ups at Vertex Coffee Roasters, Agricole Farm Stop in her hometown of Chelsea, and Musgrove & Company in Tecumseh.

Hess offers a variety of personal care and household cleaning products that it will fill customers’ containers with. She also has some free containers in her store as well as mason jars for sale.

“Instead of going to a grocery store to buy a plastic bottle from a shelf filled with a product that may not be good for our bodies or the environment, I would love people to come and visit us at BYOC Co.” said Hess. “I want people to feel safe about the things they buy.”

Their environmentally friendly products range from shampoo and conditioner bars to hand soap, dish soap and laundry detergent. All of their sustainable products are natural and hand selected based on the needs and preferences of their customers.

Hess founded BYOC Co. after facing a difficult job market after graduating. After seeing how much traction her pop-ups had, she decided to open her own storefront in Oxford Companies’ centrally located Liberty Square.

“I call myself someone who strives for a waste-free lifestyle,” said Hess. “Sometimes people feel like reducing waste is an all-or-nothing battle – and I want them to know that even a small step, like switching to shampoo bars instead of bottled shampoo, can make one can make a big difference.

“I am not perfect in this environmental movement and I never expect others to be – and I am certainly aware that there are a lot of why and how people generate waste. BYOC Co. is here to help with every little step people can take to make their lifestyle more sustainable. And there is never any judgment. We’re only here to help. “
