Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor is promoting in-store returns to reduce carbon emissions

ANN ARBOR – Briarwood Mall encourages shoppers to return their purchases directly to stores to help reduce environmental impact.

By avoiding the postal system, consumers can cut up to 40 percent of CO2 emissions and save time and money, reduce packaging waste and stress, according to the Simon Property Group.

The group, which is involved in ongoing sustainability initiatives, announced this on Earth Day – a global day of service that focuses on the importance of protecting the environment.

“Where you shop is important,” said Simon’s head of sustainability, Aharon Kestenbaum, in a statement. “And where you come back is also important. Online returns are a growing problem that is detrimental and significant for the environment. Returning online purchases to the store provides an opportunity for consumers and retailers to reduce this impact. “

According to the real estate group, only seven percent of retailers encourage and encourage returning online purchases to physical stores, despite the financial and environmental benefits.

The Briarwood Mall is located at 100 Briarwood Cir.
