Ann Arbor Software Engineer, 24th Cheesecakerie Workforce, to introduce ‘The Joffre’

ANN ARBOR, me. – Software developer and entrepreneur Vlad Taralunga teamed up with the 24th Cheesecakerie to introduce Ann Arbor The Joffre – a cake he ate as a kid.

Made from a thick chocolate ganache overlaid on a buttermilk chocolate cake base, The Joffre is filling without being fussy.

The decadent chocolate cake, a Romanian staple, is something that Taralunga’s father, Mircea Taralunga, made every year for Vlad’s birthday.

“It’s something he’s been doing for as long as I can remember, so at least 25 years,” he said.

Taralunga saw an opportunity as more and more people turned to online ordering to meet their needs during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Last year he worked with Sean Brezzell, owner of the 24th Cheesecakerie, to perfect the recipe and bring The Joffre to tables in Tree Town.

The Joffre’s simplicity is made from organic butter, cocoa powder, eggs, flour and powdered sugar and is what Taralunga likes most about the cake. He said that while it may be a bit clichéd, it describes his father’s cake as simple, classic, and luxurious.

“Imagine a chocolate cream with the texture of butter,” said Taralunga. The top layer of ultra-thick and smooth chocolate ganache is particularly unique for the cake. It’s not the healthiest dessert, but the calories are worth it.
