Ann Arbor homeowners are set to make big profits in the state of Michigan and Ohio over the weekend

ANN ARBOR Online housing marketplace Airbnb predicts that Ann Arbor property owners will see a huge influx of short-term rental income this weekend as fans in college town come to the biggest rivalry football game of the year: University of Michigan vs. Ohio State.

The company released several stats ahead of the big game weekend, including:

  • Search for accommodation in Ann Arbor for the coming weekend increased more than 210% from August through September.

  • The majority of guests arriving this weekend are from Ohio with nearly 20% notice of cancellations or changes.

  • The last time the Wolverines played the Buckeyes in Ann Arbor, the local hosts raked in over $ 1.1 million.

According to Airbnb, a typical host makes an average of $ 9,600 and new hosts who have started renting their homes since the pandemic began have reported total incomes of $ 6 billion.

The company says an increase in local stays brings “significant economic benefits” not only to hosts, but also to the local economy as hosts recommend local shops and restaurants to their guests.
