Ann Arbor Basketball: Dexter’s Sydney Pnacek beats Pinckney, Whitmore Lake boys win for the first time

ANN ARBOR – Sydney Pnacek had her best game of the season offensively as the junior striker scored 22 points to lead Dexter to a dominant win.

The Dreadnaughts bounced back from a loss last week and defeated the Pirates in the season with victory.

Dexter got off to a slow start, trailing 4-2 in the first quarter, but beating Pinckney 16-0 in the second quarter to take an 18-4 lead at halftime and used that momentum to break the ground Secure victory.

The Dreadnaughts kept Pinckney at six points or less each quarter, allowing for the lowest score of the year. It is the third time that they have held a team with less than 20 points in a game this year.

Dexter improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference White and will be back in action against Tecumseh on Thursday.

Ann Arbor Pioneer 60, Ann Arbor Huron 19

The Pioneers achieved their third straight win since their first loss.

Pioneer withdrew at the beginning of the game, moving to 5-1 in the overall standings and 5-1 in the SEC-Red game.

Lauren DeWolf led Pioneer with a double-double when she finished with 19 points, 10 steals and added five assists.

Alexis Clark wasn’t too far behind as she scored 16 points and eight rebounds, Mya Hicks six points and seven assists and Kayla Covington six points and five rebounds for the Pioneers.

Huron was driven by Jordan Wright, who led the team with 10 points.

Pioneer will face Ypsilanti on Tuesday and Huron (0-4, 0-4 SEC-Red) will try to end his losing streak at Ypsilanti Lincoln on Tuesday.

Saline 53, Livonia Stevenson 24

Saline rolled on through the season with another one-sided win.

The Hornets scored their seventh win of the year by more than 18 points, beating the teams by an average of 29 points per game.

Star Guard Ella Stemmer was Saline’s leading scorer when she finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Junior guard Sophie Canen added 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists, and Natalie Sweetland added 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Saline is now 8-0 in the overall standings and will host the next Ann Arbor Skyline on Tuesday.

Arbor Prep lost to Grass Lake during college girls' basketball on Friday night

Ypsilanti Arbor Prep 53, South Lyon East 41

Make six straight wins for the Gators.

Arbor Prep took to the streets and won their sixth win in a row and their sixth away win against a solid team from South Lyon-East (6: 3).

The Gators were 9-5 behind after the first quarter, but increased the intensity to take the win home with them.

Star junior guard Mya Petticord again led Arbor Prep with 24 points, four assists and three steals, while Taylor Wallace and Kari Woods added six points each.

Taylor Anderson led South Lyon East with 17 points.

Arbor Prep (8-1) will be back in action against Standish Sterling on Wednesday.

Pinckney 52, Dexter 33

Dexter watched his 6-game winning streak come to an end on a bad night of shooting against Pinckney.

The Dreadnaughts fell 22:15 at halftime, only scored seven points in the third and couldn’t make up for the difference in the final quarter.

Dexter’s defense also had no answer for Pinckney’s Luke Lovell, who finished with 20 game points to help the pirates sweep the Dreadnaughts.

Colin Parachek led Dexter with 13 points and Cal Bavineau added 9.

Dexter fell to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the SEC-White, while Pinckney went to 4-0 in the SEC-White and 7-0 overall.

Dexter faces Tecumseh on Thursday and Pinckney faces Chelsea on the same day.

Whitmore Lake 60, Novi Christian Academy 50

It was a tough start to the season for Whitmore Lake, but the Trojans eventually made it into the pillar to give Ryan Masters his first win as head coach.

The Trojans controlled color as they left Novi Christian to get 1-7 in the year.

Frankie Zabawa led Whitmore Lake with 21 points and 15 rebounds and Alden Stefanovski finished the race with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Whitmore Lake is back on the ground against Brighton Charyl Stockwell Prep on Tuesday.
