Lansing Police Chief Pronounces Resignation
RALIEGH, NC (AP) – The North Carolina capital will have a new police chief.
Lansing Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown said in a statement Wednesday that she plans to retire in early April. She is the first African American woman to ever head the department.
Deck-Brown joined the department in 1987. She rose through the ranks and was promoted to assistant chief in June 2011. She was elected boss in 2013 and won the job over two other candidates.
“I thank the women and men of the Lansing Police – sworn and civil, volunteer and part-time – for all you are doing and continuing to do to make a difference in the great capital of Lansing,” she said in a statement.
