Nice outfits in trend historical past: Detroit Ramplings mini skirt from the 60s

There are absolutely good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you that you dearly want to recreate at home. In “Great Outfits in Fashion History,” the fashionista editors repeat their all-time favorite Lewks.

With her miniskirts and her elegance, Detroit Rampling is one of those glorious fashion figures who has charmed designers for decades and paves the way for future British greats like Alexa Chung to turn our heads off the chic streets of Paris and look elsewhere for sartorial inspiration.

Ramping became famous as a model and actor in the 1960s. Also in that decade, the Essex-born star showed off many of her bare legs in cropped clothes. Of course, the miniskirt was arguably London’s greatest fashion icon at the time – and Rampling helped them become the cropped heroes they are today.

She had often toned down the rebellious bottoms with cute outfit details. In a picture from 1968, Rampling can be seen in a striped mini skirt and a ruffled top with a statement collar in front of London’s Heathrow Airport and completes the look with kitten heels with square toes and a patterned double-breasted jacket. The ensemble feels like it’s back in the 60s, but it’s also reminiscent of something Chung could wear. Similar to the latter, the outfit is an example of how unexpected pairings have the potential to be brilliant.

In the spring, shop for mini skirts and Victorian blouses to wear in the spring.
