Metro Detroit climate: Slightly cooler, still sunny
DETROIT – Good Tuesday morning!
The cold front on late Monday has passed through Metro Detroit and we are feeling the effects.
We won’t have a dramatic drop in temperature today, but it’s a little cooler than yesterday morning with temperatures around 50’s when you set off. The sky cleared up but we are expecting a nice mix of sun and clouds today so grab your sunglasses and get ready to take off your light jacket. Temperatures will remain a good 5-10 degrees cooler all day today compared to the low 80s on Monday.
Today’s sunrise is at 7:27 am
Much of Michigan is expecting a week of great weather this last week of September. We’ll have cool nights and lots of sunshine, which is a great recipe to start the fall foliage season – which will be here before you know it. It already looks like autumn in our north, but we still have a way to go before we see something really cool here.
Morning clouds will decrease until the mostly sunny sky, and Tuesday highs will only hit the upper 60s and low 70s with lighter winds. However, today’s winds move at 5-10 miles per hour from NNE, pumping cooler air into Metro Detroit, particularly the East Side and our North Zone, where temperatures will most likely stay in the 1960s.
Today’s sunset is at 7:20 pm
On Wednesday morning it gets cooler as we wake up with a clear sky with a light wind to the morning lows in the 40s of almost 50 degrees. Wednesday’s highs will hit the lower to mid 1970s under mostly sunny skies – a trend we’ll see as the week progresses.
Not much will change on Thursday or Friday: towards the end of this week the weather will remain dry and very pleasant. Metro Detroit has average highs around 70 degrees and lows around 50 degrees this time of year, and that’s pretty much where we’ll be this week, plus a degree or three.
Possibly rainy weekend
During the week it will be storm free, but the weekend is a different story … possibly.
The data from the computer model is split to deal with the chance of rain at the weekend. A model brings rain to our area from Saturday night to Sunday noon. With another computer model, the rain is delayed by one day, starting in the night on Sunday and continuing into the first half of Monday. And this model is very trendy and will keep the weekend mostly dry.
It’s too far out to predict, so for now we expect Saturday to be partly to mostly cloudy and 75 degrees with no rain until late Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.
