East Lansing public schools are changing their schedule to receive COVID aid

EAST LANSING, me. (WILX) – Superintendent Dori Leyko delivered a letter to the school community in East Lansing:

Dear families of East Lansing Public Schools,

With House Bill 4048 passed last week and our desire to receive the full amount of the district’s COVID relief funds, we need to make some changes to our middle and high school timetables. In order to complete the required 20 hours of face-to-face tuition per week by March 22, 2021, the Board of Education will respond to the recommendation of ELHS and MMS to offer face-to-face tuition five days a week starting next week. Each day is extended by five minutes at the end of the day.

Pending action by the Board of Directors at a special meeting scheduled for later this week, the following personal schedule will be implemented from Monday March 22, 2021:

  • Middle School: Monday – Friday 11.15 a.m. – 3.15 p.m.
  • Monday – Students attend each of their six classes for approximately 35 minutes (schedule to be communicated).
  • Tuesdays – Fridays – the schedule remains unchanged (with the exception of five minutes at the end of the day)
  • Gymnasium: Monday – Friday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Monday – Students attend each of their six classes for approximately 35 minutes (schedule to be communicated).
  • Tuesdays – Fridays – the schedule remains unchanged (with the exception of five minutes at the end of the day)

The elementary schedule currently meets the requirement of more than 20 hours per week personally. Construction plans will be published later.
