CARLOS MONARREZ:Red Wings show a lot of offensive and maybe some hope for a loud home crowd
PRE-SEASON HOME OPENER:Pius Suter looks like he’s making a difference
Game hints: The Wings fell behind early on their two show wins this week, although they typically scored three goals against Chicago goalie Kevin Lankinen and six against Sabers goalkeeper Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen – that’s a lot of K’s to guess!
The Wings squad will mainly be on the young side, with the 2020 first round Lucas Raymond doing the same on the offensive and the 2019 first round Moritz Seider doing the same in defense. But the big name on the line-up is Captain Dylan Larkin, who ended his 2020-21 season in April for the first time since a cross check in Dallas.
Which blue jackets make the trip to Detroit? It’s hard to say, although JF Berube could start on the net instead of Elvis Merzlikins or Joonas Koorpisalo. A blue jacket that won’t make the trip: striker Zac Rinaldo, who signed a two-way free agent deal in the off-season but refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Blue Jackets put him on waivers – which he deleted – and assigned him to their AHL squad in Cleveland, though they won’t let him play there either.
