Detroit Lions sign ‘Lance Chance U’ RB Rakeem Boyd as undrafted free agent
The Detroit Lions announced Monday that they’d signed up to 13 undeveloped free agents, including Rakeem Boyd, whose name could ring a bell for football fans.
In addition to being a star in Arkansas, Boyd starred in season 3 of Netflix’s “Last Chance U”.
“Swear I’ll make them pay … has been in that position before,” Boyd tweeted on Saturday.
Boyd fits into the form of die-hard gamers the new regime added to last week’s NFL draft. He ran Arkansas in a rush in 2018 and 2019 before signing out from the end of the 2020 regular season to focus on the NFL.
As a junior, he rushed for 1,133 yards with eight touchdowns in 12 games.
While at Independence Community College, Kansas, he stepped into the national spotlight of Last Chance U, where he rejuvenated his career after moving from Texas A&M due to academic problems.
By 2020, Boyd would cleanse his act to end his Arkansas career. He is an average of 5.81 meters per rush, the sixth highest in school history.
