City Accepting Nominating Packets From Fee, Mayoral Candidates

The City of Traverse City accepts nomination packages from individuals who wish to run for Mayor or City Commissioner by July 20.

In the November 2021 elections, three city commission seats will be available, including those of Brian McGillivary, Christie Minervini and Tim Werner. City commissioners have a four-year term of office. The position of Mayor of Traverse City, currently occupied by Jim Carruthers, is also awarded for a two-year term.

Candidates must be over the age of 18 and a Traverse City resident and registered voter. Candidates can collect a nomination package from the clerk’s office at 400 Boardman Avenue. Finished packages must be submitted to the city clerk by July 20th at 4 p.m. along with other required documents.

The elections in autumn 2021 are scheduled for November 2nd. The new candidates will be sworn in on November 8th.
