Caught: DNR Traps Bear That’s Been Causing Mischief Around Traverse City for Months
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) finally caught a bear that has been wreaking havoc in Traverse City for months.
“It will take a long time, it was difficult to catch,” says Steve Griffith, wildlife biologist at DNR.
Griffith says they believe this is the bear who marveled, knocked over dump trucks, and stole people’s birdseed in the Traverse City West Meijer parking lot.
After several attempts to catch the bear last fall, the case went cold as of Wednesday morning.
The DNR finally caught the bear at a local apartment complex.
“That’s why we encourage people to cut back on wildlife or just enjoy natural food choices because besides the cool songbirds, you never know what you might wear in your yard,” says Griffith.
The DNR is now moving the bear to a more remote location on the northern lower peninsula.
