TCC’s Dawson earns first-team all-state; Area lands 10 on crew, including 6 2nd-teamers | Sports
TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central junior junior Will Dawson led 10 ice hockey players in the all-state teams unveiled Monday.
Dawson earned the all-state first-team, the only one of the 10 to achieve this.
Dawson has scored 17 goals and 17 assists for TC Central that season, helping the Trojans win the Big North Conference and a regional championship.
Traverse City West strikers Tyler Esman and Michael Schermerhorn led a squad with six local second-team selections. Bay Reps striker Kaleb Miller, defender Aaron Ackerson and goalkeeper Judd Lawson, and center-back Ethan VanderRoest were also honored in the second team.
Bay Reps striker Ben Polomsky, TC Central striker Carson Peters, and Petoskey blueliner Derek Hebner were honored.
Esman and Schermerhorn both finished the season on 29 points, with Esman scoring 10 goals and 19 assists and Schermerhorn adding 13 goals and 16 assists.
VanderRoest led all area defenders with 13 goals and 20 assists, while Hebner scored 13 goals and 12 assists and Ackerson scored two goals and 18 helpers. Lawson posted a savings of 0.920 percent and a goal-versus-average of 2.24. Miller collected 13 goals and eight assists for the representatives.
Peters scored 10 goals and 14 assists for Central and Polomsky scored 12 goals and 11 assists to lead the Representatives on points.
