Travelers looking to save money on airfare later this summer and into fall have a short but valuable window this week as Southwest Airlines has announced a three-day sale with flights being offered at 40% off.
The sale runs through Thursday and is offered for select flights to and from various airports in the US from Aug. 16 until Nov. 5. Each airport has differing destinations available in the sale, so depending on where you’re interested in traveling to, you’ll want to compare different departing airports.
For instance, there is no sale offered on flights from Detroit Metro to LaGuardia Airport in New York, but there are sale fares available from Gerald R. Ford Airport in Grand Rapids.
It’s also worth noting that even with the 40% off sale, airfares are still not as low as they were prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past, Southwest sales offered flights from Detroit to Chicago’s Midway airport for as low as $49 each way. However, even with the 40% off sale, the lowest flight listed is $72 each way.
“We’re thrilled to offer our customers a substantial discount on our low fares for flights as soon as late summer and into the fall,” Bill Tierney, Southwest Airlines vice president of Marketing & Digital Experience said in a press release. “This discount on Southwest flights will help make travel more affordable and easier for customers – giving them a great low fare along with two free checked bags, and no change or cancellation fees. All of that coupled with our legendary hospitality adds up to a great deal.”
To secure the discounted airfares, customers must go to the Southwest website and click on the “Book by Thursday” button in the banner on the main page. From there, you can select your departing airport and a list of destinations available in the sale will pop up. Click the “select dates” button and you’ll be able to enter those dates and see how much the fare will cost.
