Safe Harbor in Traverse City Preparing for Weekend Weather

Groups who help the homeless are bracing for the dangerous conditions tonight.

Safe Harbor in Traverse City has been planning for the weekend since Wednesday.

They usually have about 12 volunteers daily, but they say they’ll be happy with even that helped during the storm. They’re expecting to hit capacity of around 75 people and are prepared to expand by a few beds if necessary.

“This is those times when it’s really noticeable the impact we have because when you when you realize that someone will die if they don’t make it in during a storm like this, it just reaffirms what we do every night,” Brad Gerlach the operations director at Safe Harbor said.

The Safe Harbor shelter will keep its usual schedule during the storm.
