New Detroit police officer shares why he joined the force

DETROIT – A policeman who had just graduated from the academy shared why he had joined the force.

“It feels good. The academy was strict, but it feels good to take the next step,” said Kyle Durant, a detroit police officer.

Durant is one of the newest officers. He’s a former Marine and said he got out of the military to start a new chapter and for him this is going to be a cop.

“Being a cop is not popular right now. I think you want to get the best people out there, ”Durant said.

Durant said he knew there were some policing issues right now. He said his reason for joining was simple.

“If you want to see a change, you have to be part of it. You can’t just criticize the system and never try to fix it. If not me, who will? In my opinion, the police are the most important civil service. We obviously need cops, ”said Durant.

Durant said he chose the Detroit Police Department because of their relationship with the community.

“You have to understand the community police force to be effective and actually show them that you are here to help them,” Durant said.

This is what Durant is up to. He said he lived by a simple and effective rule: “Treat others as you want to be treated.”
