Midland Area figure skaters finish 1st and 2nd at meet

The Midland Area high school figure skating team had another strong showing at its second meet of the season recently.

Competing in Alpena against Capital Area, Traverse City Combined, Kalamazoo Area, and Middle of the Mitt, Midland Area’s B team finished second in jumps, second in moves, and first in spins to take first place overall, while Midland Area’s C team placed second in jumps, first in moves, and second in spins to finish second overall. (Midland Area does not field an A team.)

Both Midland Area teams are currently in first place in their respective divisions heading into February’s district finals in Mount Pleasant.

Fred Kelly is a 1987 graduate of Coleman High School and earned a BS from Central Michigan University in 1993 and an MA from CMU in 1996. He enjoys playing softball as well as other outdoor activities, volunteering at schools, reading, and spending time with his family. He has won numerous awards from various organizations for sports writing and column writing.
