Lady Jayhawks fall to Grand Rapids Community College 49-47

LARGE RAPIDThe Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids Community College Wednesday night, landing at the bottom of a 49-47 decision for the Raiders.

The Jayhawks trailed through the entire game up to a minute in the fourth quarter, struggling to take the lead. They missed a couple of free throws to take the lead and then committed a foul to allow the Raiders to go back by two.

GRCC would take an early lead, leading 14-11 after the first ten minutes of play.

The Jayhawks continued to dig a hole as the Raiders went into the halftime break with ten points 31-21, beating MCC 17-10 in the second verse.

MCC would close the gap to five at 37-32 and outperform the Raiders 11-6 in the third quarter.

The Jayhawks easily held the upper hand 15-12 in the last ten minutes but never found the momentum to take the lead. Ultimately, MCC would fall to the Raiders for their second straight conference loss.

GRCC played really hard and dominated early on. We struggled to maintain the fight and win the fight,” said Jayhawks head coach Jason Cooper.

Mariah Pringle (Brethren) led the MCC offense with a team-high 16 points and 6 rebounds and had 4 blocked shots. She was joined in double digits by Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg), who threw in 10 points. Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) led the Jayhawks with 9 rebounds.

MCC falls 9-3 overall and is 3-2 in conference action. The Jayhawks will take to the field again on Saturday, January 22 at 1:00 p.m. on the street at Lansing Community College.
