Thanksgiving Day events
BELLAIRE – The Bellaire Public Library is hosting a mini pumpkin painting on September 25th at 11:00 am during the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce Harvest Festival.
The library also hosts the author and small house farm owner Bevin Cohen at 1pm. Discuss the growing, harvesting, and use of herbs. This presentation is funded by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council.
Thanksgiving takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Other activities: handicraft market, live music, bouncy castle, animal parade and cook-off.
PETOSKEY – Bear River Health and Community Recovery Alliance is celebrating Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month on September 25th from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Bay Front Park. The event includes live music, speakers, pizza, and more. Email [email protected] if you are interested in performing or speaking.
Dance and dinner
WILLIAMSBURG – The barn dance and the chilli dinner will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on September 25th at Samels Farm. Music is provided by Hammer’D. A donation of US $ 10 supports the Samels Farm Heritage Society. COVID protocols are followed.
TRAVERSE CITY – The Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering nautical charts from 6pm to 9pm on September 28th. Students learn how to interpret a nautical chart and navigate the Great Lakes.
The cost is $ 20 and includes the current NOAA map of Grand Traverse Bay. Two people can share a chart for $ 10 each. Registration by September 25th. Contact: 231-883-8040; [email protected]
MAPLE CITY – Leelanau County’s musician Dennis Palmer will perform at the Little Traverse Inn from 4pm to 6pm on September 26th. Palmer plays acoustic blues and contemporary folk music. Entry is free, but donations support the Empire Area Community Emergency Fund.
Art and music
TRAVERSE CITY – The Higher Art Gallery hosts the Jeff Haas Trio and artist Julie Braverman from September 27th 7-10pm. Tickets are $ 12 and include two glasses of wine. Participants must wear face masks. Contact: 231-252-4616.
Vegan harvest course
TRAVERSE CITY – Oryana is offering the Vegan Harvest course online on September 28th at 6:00 p.m. Ali Lopez shows how to make basic recipes with seasonal products like apples and pumpkin. The cost is $ 10. Log in to oryana.coop.
TRAVERSE CITY – Brats and Shots Curbside Grippe Clinic will be held at Colonel Demas T. Craw VA Clinic on September 29th, 10 am-2pm. Sausages are cooked by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 38. THOMPSONVILLE – Benzie Area Historical Society has its annual meeting on September 29th at 7pm in Crystal Mountain. On the agenda is a formal publication and signing of the book “Thompsonville in Time” by Charles Kraus. There is also a cash bar, light appetizers and refreshments. Sip and see
TRAVERSE CITY – Sip and See takes place from October 1st from 6pm to 10pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. View online auction items in person and enjoy music and German bites. Beer and wine is $ 8. Admission is $ 20 for adults over 21 at MyNorthTickets.com.
Autumn brew release
BELLAIRE – Short’s Brewing Company is releasing the Pure Michigan Autumn IPA across the Midwest. The ale is brewed using ingredients grown and harvested in Michigan, such as pine and citrus fruits. Visit shortsbrewing.com for a map of where to find the beer.
