On Wednesday, dozens gathered in downtown Detroit to call for an end to Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian people, following Israel declaring war on militant group Hamas after it launched Oct. 7 attacks on civilians. The conflict has left thousands dead.
A group marched from the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building to Detroit’s iconic “Monument to Joe Louis,” a tribute to the late boxer that honors his efforts to fight Jim Crow laws and stands as a symbol against racism. There have been several pro-Palestinian protests in Michigan this month, including at the Michigan Capitol and in Dearborn.
