Bear returns to Traverse City space, gets into mischief

GARFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A black bear has returned to the Traverse City area causing mischief after it was removed earlier this year, reports 9 & 10 News.

The bear was spotted in the Veterans Drive area of ​​Garfield Township. It has raided bird feeders, trash cans, and fruit trees, according to locals.

Clearly labeled bear traps have been set up in the area by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the report said.

Michigan is home to approximately 12,000 black bears. According to DNR, about 10,000 live on the upper peninsula while 2,000 live in the lower peninsula. The bears can be lured into the apartments by the smell of bird food – even if the automatic feeder is empty.
