TRAVERSE CITY, ME. — National Cherry Festival, a nearly century-old summertime tradition in Northwest Lower Michigan, is returning for eight days in 2022.
The Traverse City festival is scheduled for Friday, July 1 through Saturday, July 9, with a schedule that boasts many of the longtime favorite activities and events that draw a half-million visitors each year.
Highlights of this year’s festival include two US Navy Blue Angels air shows, the Community Royale parade, fireworks, and entertainment headliners Boys II Men, ZZ Top and Jim Gaffigan.
The schedule also includes summer favorites such as cherry pie-eating and pit-spitting contests, a midway, a cherry market, beach volleyball tournaments, sand castle sculpture contests, classic car shows, the coronation of the Cherry Queen, a beer tent, and plenty more.
Here’s a quick peek at some of the current schedule’s highlights:
Friday, July 1: Old Town Classic Car Cruise
Saturday, July 2: Opening ceremonies, Consumers Energy’s Very Cherry Porch Parade (virtual), Very Cherry flying pancake breakfast, Zumba by the Bay, two-person beach volleyball tournament, farmer’s market, balance bike race (ages 2-5), adult Cherry pit spitting contest, US Navy Blue Angels air show
Sunday, July 3: Yoga by the Bay, arts and crafts fair, four-person beach volleyball tournament, kids cherry teddy bear tea, family sand sculpture contest, US Navy Blue Angels air show
Monday, July 4: Kids and adult cherry pie-eating contest, adult cherry pit-spitting contest, 4th of July fireworks, live music by Collective Soul & TESLA
Tuesday, July 5: Cherry pie bike ride, kids pet show, kids cherry pie-eating contest, cherry industry program and awards
