TCNewTech Bar Napkin event on tap Dec. 7

December 1 – TRAVERSE CITY – Some of the best ideas come from an idea sketched on a napkin.

Therefore, TCNewTech decided to dedicate its last monthly pitch night of 2021 to several of these powerful ideas from “innovators, inventors and other lateral thinkers”.

The December 7th event will be dedicated to these bar napkin ideas. Instead of TCNewTech’s normal five-minute pitch followed by a five-minute question-and-answer period, bar napkin pitches are limited to a one-minute slide presentation with no question-and-answer session.

The event starts with networking at 5:30 p.m. Pitch presentations start at 6 p.m.

The event takes place in the municipal opera house. It will also be broadcast live on TCNewTech’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages and YouTube channel.

TCNewTech has used bar napkin presentations earlier, such as the first virtual pitch night in April 2020. But this time the bar napkins pitches will be topped off.

“We really haven’t had (all) bar napkin pitches since 2019,” said Jennifer Szunko, Executive Director of TCNewTech. “They’re fun and we’ve kind of saved them so we can have a nice selection of innovative ideas.”

Bar napkin presentations do not usually compete for cash prizes. The longer presentations are usually the only ones competing for the $ 500 cash prize chosen by an audience vote. But that will change on December 7th thanks to Pitch Night sponsor 4Front Credit Union.

TCNewTech has a handful of local moderators who create bar napkin pitches. Some of the moderators are earmarked for multiple pitches.

“The idea for the Bar Napkin pitch is to lower the entry barrier for budding entrepreneurs, but also to provide a platform for innovators who have ideas up their sleeves that they just didn’t have a chance to work on and may need to work with someone else to bring it to market, “Szunko said in an email.

Interactive Aerial will provide an update as part of the event on December 7th. The Cass Road manufacturing facility was unveiled at Pitch Night in July 2016.

The story goes on

“They’re growing and doing really well,” Szunko said of the robotics company. “It’s also fun to give back one of our success stories.”

The last TCNewTech event of 2021 is more than a month between the dates. The TCNewTech event usually takes place on the first Tuesday of the month.

“It was nice,” said Szunko. “Because it is December 7th, which can be the latest on the calendar, it’s been a good, long time.”

TCNewTech and Traverse Connect host the North Coast Homecoming job fair on November 24th at the Park Place Hotel and Conference Center. The event aims to familiarize young professionals with technology companies in the region in order to bring the “boomerangs” back together. with the possibilities in the region.

The day before Thanksgiving was North Coast Homecoming, a nod to Michigan’s Creative Coast – Traverse Connect’s talent attraction initiative.
